More info :

If you don’t recognise the bloke cruising across the alti plano, you may possibly identify him having been magnificently captured, styling in Dundee back in 2006. Still not sure?
It is of course Tom Jolly of GlobalEd, our go-between who helps out with our link to Azul Wasi. Why, you’ll now be wondering, should we be popping these images onto our site?
With life as we know it now closed down across our regions and beyond, lives of course at Azul Wasi go on. Latin Quarter has been consistently supporting the boys for nearly two decades now, support that has been vital in providing the much needed funds that a programme of this importance requires. That support, through salsa events and classes, as you will all be aware are now and for the foreseeable future on hold.
Tom has always thought of himself as a hidden hand who occasionally pops up at a Latin Quarter extravaganza where the real hard work happens thanks to the salsa fraternity of South East Scotland. With that in mind it’s time for him to get back on his bike and see what he can do to help.
Tom is planning to not literately cycle to Cusco, but, Covid 19 restrictions considered, he will use and repeat 20 times the long ride out of the Tamar Valley in Devon/Cornwall (a rise of 150metres above sea level) to achieve an accumulated vertical distance of 3000m, the altitude in the part of the Andes Azul Wasi calls home.
More details will be explained in a week or so with a short video, but the outline is:
· 10 stages comprising 2 laps of route giving a 300m altitude gain (including what would be a ‘Cat 4 climb’ in any of Europe’s Gran Tours)
· Challenge dates: 1st – 10th July 2020 – 10 consecutive days with a total altitude gain of 3000m, the altitude of the Azul Wasi home in the Andes
· Registered supporters have a chance each day to win a lovely prize all the way from Peru by accurately predicting daily stage times
· Daily stage footage will be available. All results published by end of July 2020.
Registration OPEN NOW Until the end of June.  Also see Salsa Dundee – Latin Quarter Facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/LQsalsadundee/
Thank you

ONLY 5 DAYS to go to AZUL WASI TAMAR CHALLENGE

26 06 2020
Tom sent a short video while out training for the Azul Wasi Tamar Challenge, ONLY 5 DAYS left now until the challenge starts so please send your predicted times in asap if you’d like a chance to win one of the lovely daily prizes from Peru for accurately predicting daily stage times. You can make donations now and during the 10 day day challenge which starts on the 1st of July, but the closing date for predictions will be 23.59hrs on the 30th June 2020. PLEASE SHARE.
As you know LQ dance classes are off at present so Azul Wasi, home for former street children in Peru, have much reduced revenue this year so Tom is hoping to raise as much as possible with this cycle challenge, but is a long way off his target amount. If anyone can make even a small donation for Tom’s cycle challenge this will greatly help the children at Azul Wasi.

CANCELLED LATIN QUARTER Tuesday CLASSES & SOCIAL-20th March

15 03 2020
Given the recent change in situation with the Coronavirus, all Latin Quarter tuesday classes (and the Social on 20th March @ The Blackwatch) are cancelled until further notice. This coming week was the last week of the Bachata block so we had planned to do Dominican bachata footwork with no partner work next week to reduce the risks (and non partner footwork in all the 3 classes) but given that the situation has changed (although the government has not yet specified to stop classes) we have decided not to do this next week. We hope everyone stays safe. Will update when we have further guidance.
A further note : I am aware that I owe the people who bought a bachata pass £3.50 refund for the last class, so we will have to work out a way to give this, there are a few possibilities. I was going to start a new beginners salsa block after the Easter holidays from 21st April (ish) if the virus situation depicts can restart. Or I may recover the last bachata class before start these classes, whenever they will restart as could well have to wait until later, we are not sure yet of course. So people can save their passes from the Bachata fusion class to use either for another class in the future, or entry towards a future social, if anyone wants the refund let me know and I will try to get it to you. I will try to email the pass people about this in the next few days and give a few options.
