LATIN QUARTER Classes starting back Sept 7th

6 08 2021

NEW Beginners cross body style Salsa,  6.15-7.05pm, classes start tues 7th September at The Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee. Please email LQ salsadundee@gmail.com to book a space as may need to limit numbers in the room, not sure yet.

10 week block pass £35 or £5 per class weekly. Can join first 2 weeks only. Beginners class please come 10 to 15 min early to register & pay. Classes are progressive, Anyone welcome, no partner usually necessary as usually we change partners in the class, however this may be a difficulty if people don’t want to change partners due to Covid.  I think you need to wear a mask at present too and provide details for test and trace. Will update nearer the time if further issues as need an update from the venue to see if any cleaning required in between classes.  Please bring some hand sanitizer to do regularly.

Email – LQsalsadundee@gmail.com for places or more info. Please pass the word. All money raised for Azul Wasi project for former street children in Peru. Directions on www.salsadundee.com on class page. Please note : there is no car parking outside the deaf hub (may get a parking ticket), best to park on Brown street.

NOTE : Other 2 classes below are higher level classes and only open to those with experience, please contact teacher in advance to check level to join if new to Latin quarter classes. The class times are slightly reduced as need to collect test and trace details and may be other covid jobs to do in between classes. Please come 5 to 10 min early to register and pay. Will be class pass option of £20 for 6 classes or £4 per class.
There will be options in classes for those who do not wish to change partners and for those who do hopefully but as this is all new we will have to assess partner situation each session if you do not come with one.
Improvers / intermediate Cross body salsa 7.15 – 8pm
Cuban salsa class 8.15 to 9.05pm.  This class will be Cuban partner work only NOT rueda initially.  Also if not enough couples this class may not run, will assess situation in first 2 weeks.  If class does not run thinking to do a Beginners Bachata fusion class instead and an occasional Cuban partnerwork or rueda class for those with experience already.
Any queries please email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com

Meet the Spiritualist Tues 2nd Feb @7pm

26 01 2021

Tuesday 2nd Feb at 7pm, meet Thiru via zoom who will speak about Spiritualism and how to adopt values in practical life.   Thiru has been practicing the principles of the vedanta spiritualism for over 15 years in his day to day life and business. This will be a talk and perhaps a short taster of meditation.

Please email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com to reserve a space, by Friday 29th January. You’ll then be sent information about how to donate to the Azul Wasi project in Peru for former street children along with the ZOOM link for the session.
A suggested donation for each of the sessions is £ 4 – £5 each person attending, but if you want to donate less or more that’s fine. We’re aware people are all in different circumstances financially at present.
All donations go to the Azul Wasi project in Peru. Please share if you can to spread the word.

More info :

If you don’t recognise the bloke cruising across the alti plano, you may possibly identify him having been magnificently captured, styling in Dundee back in 2006. Still not sure?
It is of course Tom Jolly of GlobalEd, our go-between who helps out with our link to Azul Wasi. Why, you’ll now be wondering, should we be popping these images onto our site?
With life as we know it now closed down across our regions and beyond, lives of course at Azul Wasi go on. Latin Quarter has been consistently supporting the boys for nearly two decades now, support that has been vital in providing the much needed funds that a programme of this importance requires. That support, through salsa events and classes, as you will all be aware are now and for the foreseeable future on hold.
Tom has always thought of himself as a hidden hand who occasionally pops up at a Latin Quarter extravaganza where the real hard work happens thanks to the salsa fraternity of South East Scotland. With that in mind it’s time for him to get back on his bike and see what he can do to help.
Tom is planning to not literately cycle to Cusco, but, Covid 19 restrictions considered, he will use and repeat 20 times the long ride out of the Tamar Valley in Devon/Cornwall (a rise of 150metres above sea level) to achieve an accumulated vertical distance of 3000m, the altitude in the part of the Andes Azul Wasi calls home.
More details will be explained in a week or so with a short video, but the outline is:
· 10 stages comprising 2 laps of route giving a 300m altitude gain (including what would be a ‘Cat 4 climb’ in any of Europe’s Gran Tours)
· Challenge dates: 1st – 10th July 2020 – 10 consecutive days with a total altitude gain of 3000m, the altitude of the Azul Wasi home in the Andes
· Registered supporters have a chance each day to win a lovely prize all the way from Peru by accurately predicting daily stage times
· Daily stage footage will be available. All results published by end of July 2020.
Registration OPEN NOW Until the end of June.  Also see Salsa Dundee – Latin Quarter Facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/LQsalsadundee/
Thank you

ONLY 5 DAYS to go to AZUL WASI TAMAR CHALLENGE

26 06 2020
Tom sent a short video while out training for the Azul Wasi Tamar Challenge, ONLY 5 DAYS left now until the challenge starts so please send your predicted times in asap if you’d like a chance to win one of the lovely daily prizes from Peru for accurately predicting daily stage times. You can make donations now and during the 10 day day challenge which starts on the 1st of July, but the closing date for predictions will be 23.59hrs on the 30th June 2020. PLEASE SHARE.
As you know LQ dance classes are off at present so Azul Wasi, home for former street children in Peru, have much reduced revenue this year so Tom is hoping to raise as much as possible with this cycle challenge, but is a long way off his target amount. If anyone can make even a small donation for Tom’s cycle challenge this will greatly help the children at Azul Wasi.
