Poster_BandFINALGnov13friary copy12th Anniversary party : LATIN QUARTER CHARITY BAND NIGHT with the groovy live band SON al SON @ The Friary, Tullideph Rd, Dundee, DD2 2PN on Fri 13th Nov. 8pm-TBC (hoping for 1am).  Free Salsa beginners class at 8.15pm. Tickets £12 on door or £2 DISCOUNT in advance from Grouchos, sarah at classes or via sarahbrox@gmail.com. Will be a raffle on the night. Tables can be reserved via same email for 8 minimum for prepaid ticket holders. Information about the band.

 The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Congas) Eric Alfonso (Timbales)from Venezuela,Lino Rocha (lead vocals and hand percussion) from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass),Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Euan Allardice (Trumpet).

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto De Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.

Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo and original songs to bring  a more ‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to there set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!

Note: They changed their name to Salsonique for a while but have changed it back to Son al Son recently.

Latin Quarter Social & dance taster workshops @ Club Romano next Tues

Latin Quarter Social & workshops – Tues 30th June @ Club Romano

Club Romano, 16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ.  Directions :just off perth road up side street West Wynd next to Curry shop on corner, walk up street past Turf & timber blue sign, Club is next building on left with red door, there is no sign for Club Romano.

Evening details :  Merengue dance taster, 6.30pm- £4,  Bachata workshop, 7.15 – 8.15pm- £5.  Social,  latin music for dancing 8.15-10.30pm, £3- anyone welcome to come for any of the classes & social, no previous experience needed. Will be raffle too.  Combo tickets for both workshops & social – £8, 2 dance classes only £7, Bachata class & social – £6.  Friends & family welcome, please pass the word if you can. All money raised goes to the Azul Wasi project in peru for former street children.  Email sarahbrox@gmail.com for more info.

Tuesday classes moving to Club Romano for next 2 weeks

The usual Deaf Hub classes at usual times are running on tues 23rd June at Club Romano, 16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ. (off perth road up side street just down from Dilsee ).

Latin Quarter Social- Tues 30th June – Timings. Usual Beginners class will be at 6.30pm (closed class).

Bachata workshop – anyone welcome- 7.30 – 8.15pm- £5.  Social 8.15-10.30pm, £3- anyone welcome. – latin music for dancing. Will be raffle too, prize donations gratefully recieved.  Combo ticket for workshop & social – £6.  Friends & family welcome, please pass the word if you can. All money raised goes to the Azul Wasi project in peru for former street children.  Email sarahbrox@gmail.com for more info.

LQ social, Fri 13 march at Club Romano- 16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ. (off perth road up side street just down from Dilsee ). Doors open at 8pm, on till 12 midnight, entry £5, pay at door. Eve will start with a 30 min salsa taster class for total beginners at 8pm then latin music for dancing. Anyone welcome bring friends and family. Will be a raffle too, any prize donations would be gratefully appreciated.

Please note slight time changes to other classes, I have left a 5 min gap between classes this time to help reduce timing issues ! Improvers/Intermediate Cross body 7.15-8.05pm, Improv/ Intermediate Cuban Rueda 8.10-9pm. Latin Quarter Christmas Social – Tues 16th Dec @ The Deaf Hub.

Social starts at 8pm till 10.30pm for any non salsa dancers- £3, pay at door.  Will be Christmas salsa statue dance and raffle – prizes welcome.  All money raised goes to Azul Wasi home for former street children in Peru.  We just hit £80, 000 mark.  See www.salsadundee.com for direction to the Deaf Hub under class page.
Pre social workshop for individuals who already dance salsa, all levels – Shines & styling.  7.15-8pm – £4.
Workshop & social combo-£5
Beginners Rueda will start 15 min later at 6.30pm.  Anyone from Improvers/ Intermediate LQ tues classes can join in this class for this week. Please note : This class is only for usual Tues Rueda class students.  Class £4 or use LQ class pass if have one.  Non pass students attending Rueda, plus shines workshop & social combo price – £7.

Latin Quarter Christmas social – Tues 16th Dec @ The Deaf Hub

Just to pre warn – The 16th Dec will be the last week for salsa classes at the Deaf Hub until mid January ( dates to follow) and will also be the Christmas social.  There will be a mixed level Rueda class for existing students in the Beginners cuban class slot on the 16th but this may start a little later.  This will be followed by a shines & styling workshop, then the social- full details will follow shortly.  Anyone welcome to come to the shines workshop & social. Timings & costs to follow shortly.

nov22colLatin Quarter latin social, sat 22nd Nov, 8pm till 12pm @ Club Romano,  16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ  ( just off Perth Road, near Dilsee restaurant)   If you’re new to Latin Quarter, its a latin night with music to dance to with a free beginners salsa class at 8pm.  Pay on the door £5, all money raised goes to  help the Azul Wasi street children project in Peru.  See charities tab on website for more details about Azul wasi.  Please pass the word, pop  up a poster if you can.  There will also be a raffle on the evening, come ans spice your life up with a little latin spirit, anyone welcome, bring friends & family too.
