BIG THANKS

26 11 2019

BIG THANKS to EVERYONE who came on Saturday to support the Latin Quarter Charity night with the fantastic live band Son Sabroso @ The Friary. Special thanks to those that came from further afield too.. Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester ! etc, there were about 125 people who attended.

We raised a total of £869 (after all outgoings) which is great, for the Azul Wasi project in Peru, home for former street children. Many thanks to the 2 sponsors of the evening, A&J Stephen (Builders) Ltd and Wilson Construction (Perth) Ltd, and big thanks to the Bepoke Bar Company who provided free bar hire. Big thanks to Audiowave, Mitch, Louise & Denni for sound, The Friary, SAS advertising for free run of advertising & Grouchos, Vanessa & Fiona for ticket sales. Many thanks to Patrick, Pawel & Pamela for doing the door on the night and to Pawel for printing the lovely table information and to Tom Jolly who couldn’t be with us but made up the lovely Azul Wasi courier update on the tables (attached).

MASSIVE thanks to Son Sabroso for bringing some latin spirit to warm us up on a rainy Dundee night with their great music & vocals and party atmosphere.

Would also like to thank those who helped on the night with the raffle and for all the raffle donations : thanks to Achray Farm Air bnb, The Peruvian Restaurant, V&A museam, Parcari Chocolates, Clara for the Balinese Massage & Johan for the massage vouchers, Sol y Sombra, Fiona M and to everyone else who gave donations. Next time there are lots of prizes we will pre draw & let you collect rather than call them all out, so more dancing time !

Hope to see you at the next social : Festive Mixed Latin Night- Dec 7th @ The Gate, Dundee.

Information about the band.

The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Congas) Eric Alfonso (Timbales)from Venezuela,Lino Rocha (lead vocals and hand percussion) from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass),Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Euan Allardice (Trumpet).

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto De Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.

Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo and original songs to bring  a more ‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to there set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!

Note: They changed their name to Salsonique for a while but have changed it back to Son al Son recently.
