Remember from next tue ( 31st May) a NEW 8 week beginners course in Cross body style Salsa starts, full course £25, pay in full on first week.   Anyone who has been attending the beginners Rueda class at The Chamber suite or has done the basic Rueda moves elsewhere are welcome to move up to the Improvers Rueda class at 8.15 on tues. Classes at The Chamber Suite, Panmure St. DD1 1ED  6.45pm -7.30pm, come 10 min early for first week to register & pay for classes, all money goes to Azul Wasi Street childrens project in Peru.  Email sarahbrox@gmail.com for more details.   Pop a poster up if you can help advertise.





CHARITY Salsa Band Night with Son al Son – Sat 7th May @ The Friary

Latin Quarter presents CHARITY SALSA  BAND NIGHT with Son Al Son, Latin band on Sat 7th May at The Friary, Tullideph Rd, Dundee DD2 2PN  to raise money for the Azul Wasi project for street children near Cusco, Peru. Doors open 8pm, salsa beginners class at 8.15pm, on till 12.30am.  There’s a raffle too.  Venue has large wooden dance floor.
Tickets available with a £2 discount if paid in advance from Grouchos ( Dundee, from mon 11th april) or from Sarah at classes.   Otherwise tickets are £12 or £9 (stu) on the door on the night.   If folks are coming together you can reserve a table  for between 8 & 12 people by emailing sarahbrox@gmail.com.  Please help advertise , click on the poster & pop one up somewhere if you can.
Information about the band, Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Bongos) Eric Alfonso (Congas) and from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet)with Lino Rocha on Vocals and Guiro and Simon Gall on Piano and Vocals.  As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba,Son al Son have recreated this sound to bring a little bit of Havana to you.  Son al Son play a lively set of traditional Cuban songs guaranteed to get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Evening of Japanese Culture for earthquake victims – Fri 25th March

Message from Yumiko, an invitation to an evening to experience Japanese culture, in support for earthquake victims.  You can come and learn how to make origami bird, taste sushi, drink green tea, while you write your messages to the earthquake victims, and
make your donation.  Place: UNESCO Centre board room (Peters Building), University of Dundee,   Time: 4:30-5:30. Friday 25th March.

Your donation and messages will be sent to Association for Aid and Relief Japan http://www.aarjapan.gr.jp/english/ a Japanese NGO
experienced in emergency relief operations.   AAR has kindly agreed to take our message directly to the earthquake victims along with their aid delivery.  For those who have lost their family and loved ones, a warm message and support from Scotland will be an encouragement.

You are also welcome to bring any additional food or drink items.  If you would like to drink green tea, please bring your own cup.

LATIN QUARTER SPICE NIGHT – Fri 1st April

Spice up your life at Latin Quarter, come along to support the Azul Wasi street childrens project in Peru  and see African drumming with the fantastic AFRODISIAC playing West African rhythms, including the occasional bit of singing and dancing too. We also have Flamenco dancing with fabulous FLAMENCO JUEVES and try a Salsa beginners class ( 8.15pm). SPICE NIGHT – FRI 1st April

Latin Quarter Spice night on Fri 1st April,  8pm till 12.30am at The Chamber Suite, Panmure St, Dundee DD1 1ED  a night of latin dancing ( much like a normal Latin Quarter night but with the added SPICE of performances from the Spice countries).  So far we have the brilliant AFRODISIAC and others TBC.  The AFRODISIAC group are from all over Angus and have been together for over 10 years, they play West African rhythms, including the occasional bit of singing and dancing too.

Thanks to everyone that came , helped out and-or supported last Saturday at the Valentines  CHARITY Latin Ball at The Apex Hotel,  overall we raised £819  (after outgoings) .  We had a lot of fun and dancing and at the same time are giving hope and happiness to the children at the  Azul Wasi street childrens project in Peru & that is great !

Doors open at 8pm, SON al SON , a GREAT Cuban band will entertain you in style playing 2 sets starting around 9pm, with a beginners salsa class at 8.15pm.  There are themed cocktails available at £4.95 each and bar snacks too, nachos with meat chilli & cheese (£4.95) or veggie chilli & cheese (£4), bowl of dorritos ( 60p) & other snacks  !  Theres a raffle with some great prizes, £20 restaurant voucher, Ice skating tickets, DCA vouchers and much more and some exclusive CUBAN goods for auction.   In between band sets popular latin music such as Salsa, bachata, merengue is played to get you up dancing or just relax & enjoy the music.   Please pass the word and bring friends.  Money raised goes to Azul Wasi street children project near Cusco, Peru.
