Charity Ceilidh for special schools in Dundee & Cusco – June 22nd

poster (1)Lyndsey has organised a Ceilidh for a very good cause to raise money for 2 special schools, one in Dundee the other in Cusco.  Please pass the word, pop a poster up in a local shop, library ..  June 22nd, Chamber East, £10 a ticket. She is also looking for resources & raffle prizes :
Two teachers from Kingspark School (Dundee) are travelling to Cuzco, Peru to visit Manos Unidas Special School in July. Hoping to take out any easily packable resources and toys or any specialised equipment/resources for pupils with additional needs.  Also looking for raffle prizes or vouchers for the ceilidh, see poster, email lyndseytyler@hotmail.com for tickets.

10thannparty&news 063Thanks to everyone who made last Friday’s 10th Anniversary party such a success, we raised £ 1837       for the Azul Wasi  project in Peru which is fantastic.  There was a short clip about Azul Wasi & LQ on stv news last friday (31 may) which can be seen on stv player after clip about puffins.

Thank again to SON al SON,  Mark & guys for the PA Sound, Tom Jolly from Global Ed, Tribal Storm, Arsh  & LQ salseros for performances, & the Sponsors – Martin Alan civil engineering, Stephen builders & GT Diamond drilling.   Also Grouchos, SAS advertising, Mary -Kate for sourcing most of the fantastic raffle prizes & all those who donated raffle & auction prizes, Ashley & Monojit for the door, Susan, Hamish & Mary -Kate for helping with raffle & those who helped with photocopying & posters etc.

10th Anniversary Charity Extravaganza Evening is 7.30-12 midnight (sharp), lots of great things to fit in to this special evening celebrating 10 years of Latin Quarter and it’s support for the Azul Wasi project in Peru & other projects.  All money raised on this evening will go to Azul Wasi. Hope you can join the celebration !

Doors open at  7.30pm, eve will begin with a 30 min taster beginners salsa class at 7.40pm,  There is a belly dance performance at   8.30pm & the live band SON al SON will play a first set at 9pm.  During the break between sets there is an Indian dance performance, Raffle, presentation & Salsa demo.  Following break the band will play a 2nd set, then DJ music for dancing till midnight.

The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Congas), Eric Alfonso (Timbales) from Venezuela, Lino Rocha (lead vocals and hand percussion) from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass), Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet).

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.

Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo and original songs to bring a more ‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to their set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!

LQ Ladies & Men’s salsa styling workshop- Tues 12th March

One off workshop 7.15-8.15pm, £4, Tues 12th March, workshop open to anyone who can do basic salsa steps including cross body lead inside turn.   Workshop will include ladies styling moves & tips including body rolls, body isolation, arm styling, shine sequence (footwork patterns) and some partner work tips.  Men’s styling will include shine sequence & styling to help in partner work.  Beginners Cuban & Rueda classes running as normal.  Rueda class will include partnerwork session too on 12th.
