Charity Valentines Latin Ball- Sat 12th February 2011

LATIN QUARTER presents a CHARITY Valentines Latin Ball at The Apex City Quay Hotel &
Spa, 1 West Victoria Dock Road,  Dundee, DD1 3JP  on  Saturday February 12th
2011 with Son Al Son, Cuban music band.  Doors open at 8pm on till 1am, come along
and feel the Cuban spirit with a live band, free beginners Salsa class at
8.15pm.  There will be a Raffle on the night and a dance competition.
Tickets £12 ( students £9)  on the door or £2 DISCOUNT for tickets
purchased in advance from sarahbrox@gmail.com or Grouchos (Dundee), tickets on sale
from 15th Jan 2011.  Money raised goes to Azul Wasi street children project near Cusco, Peru.

Groups welcome, tables can be reserved for 8 or more if
tickets purchased in advance.  Please print off or email posters around friends if you can.

Information about the band, Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Bongos) Eric Alfonso (Congas) and from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet)with Lino Rocha on Vocals and Guiro and Simon Gall on Piano and Vocals.

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba, Son al Son have recreated this sound to bring a little bit of Havana to you.  Son al Son play a lively set of traditional Cuban songs guaranteed to get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! REMEMBER Latin Quarter on this Sat eve 20th Nov, 8pm till 12pm @ Club Romano,  16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ  ( just off Perth Road, near Dilsee restaurant)   If you’re new to Latin Quarter, its a latin night with music to dance to with a free beginners salsa class at 8pm.  Pay on the door £5/ £4 (students), all money raised goes to  help the Azul Wasi street children project in Peru.  See charities tab on website for more details about Azul wasi.  Please pass the word, there will also be a raffle on the evening with a hige hamper donated for the 1st prize !, thanks to the Brae Partnership.

LATIN SPICE Regular Sunday event

Latin Spice Regular Sunday afternoon latin music party organised by Will in Soul Nightclub, St Andrews St, Dundee starting this Sunday, 5pm to 7pm.  The best of Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Latin Pop. Dias Brazil play in Freuchie Sun 13th June

Dias Brazil are playing at Fife Jazz Club at Lomond Hills Hotel in Freuchie on Sunday 13th June from 2pm to 5pm. REMEMBER 

Latin Quarter with Cuban dancer/performer Yamil Cuedo Ferrera from Ballet folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba.  The usual latin/salsa social charity dance with Cuban dance performances from Yamil.  Come and sample a taste of the real Cuba with Yamil’s energetic dance. 

Venue :  The Mark Henderson Centre, Ann Street, Dundee DD3 7TH.  8-12pm.   Soft drinks bar only ( please purchase soft drinks at venue, proceeds also going to charity), bring your own alcohol.  Pay on the door, £6/£5 ( students).  Proceeds go to the Azul Wasi street kids project near Cusco, Peru via Peace Child International, Uk charity.  Please pass word & help advertise.
