CHARITY Valentines Latin Ball – Feb 12th – The Apex Hotel

TICKETS ON SALE NOW for the CHARITY LIVE BAND Valentines Ball at The Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa, 1 West Victoria Dock Road,  Dundee, DD1 3JP  on  Saturday February 12th 2011, doors open at 8pm on till 1am.  SON AL SON, Cuban music band are bringing a little bit of Havana to you.   For new comers to Latin Quarter band events there’s a beginners salsa class at 8.15pm to get the night going then Son al Son will play 2 sets starting around 9pm.  There’s also a raffle & auction with some gifts straight from Cuba.  In between band sets popular latin music such as Salsa, bachata, merengue is played to get you up dancing or just relax & enjoy the music.   Please pass the word and bring friends.

NEW Beginners Salsa classes starting this week

BEGINNERS Charity Salsa classes – January 2011, Still places in all classes just come along on the 18th or the 27th Jan, or email first with any queries.

2 NEW beginners salsa classes, 2 different styles,  Entry to new beginners classes only in first 2 weeks or starting to join. Please come 10 min early for first class to register.  See classses page on website for directions .
1)  Chamber Suite classes in NEW YEAR.
Classes start Tue 18th Jan at Chamber Suite, Panmure St, Dundee ( behind McManus galleries).
NEW Beginners 10 week class Cuban style salsa 6.45-7.30pm   (this will lead onto learning the Cuban wheel dance, Rueda).
Improvers/intermediate cross body salsa class  7.30-8.15pm
Cuban Rueda Improvers/ Intermed class 8.15-9.15pm
Beginners Cuban class course £25 for 10 week block ( pay for block at 1st or 2nd Class), or £4 per class paid weekly. Other 2 classes £4 per class, or multi- class deal £15 for 5 classes if paid in advance per class course.

Charity Valentines Latin Ball- Sat 12th February 2011

LATIN QUARTER presents a CHARITY Valentines Latin Ball at The Apex City Quay Hotel &
Spa, 1 West Victoria Dock Road,  Dundee, DD1 3JP  on  Saturday February 12th
2011 with Son Al Son, Cuban music band.  Doors open at 8pm on till 1am, come along
and feel the Cuban spirit with a live band, free beginners Salsa class at
8.15pm.  There will be a Raffle on the night and a dance competition.
Tickets £12 ( students £9)  on the door or £2 DISCOUNT for tickets
purchased in advance from sarahbrox@gmail.com or Grouchos (Dundee), tickets on sale
from 15th Jan 2011.  Money raised goes to Azul Wasi street children project near Cusco, Peru.

Groups welcome, tables can be reserved for 8 or more if
tickets purchased in advance.  Please print off or email posters around friends if you can.

Information about the band, Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Bongos) Eric Alfonso (Congas) and from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet)with Lino Rocha on Vocals and Guiro and Simon Gall on Piano and Vocals.

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba, Son al Son have recreated this sound to bring a little bit of Havana to you.  Son al Son play a lively set of traditional Cuban songs guaranteed to get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Christmas Latin Quarter Party classes & night – Tue 14th Dec

Christmas Party Latin Quarter in December will be on Tuesday 14th Dec at The Chamber Suite.
Chamber Suite Christmas classes (1 week only & our last classes of 2010 ! )
6.30-7.15pm Bachata Improvers level (some Bachata experience desirable)
7.15-8pm  Shines & Styling -Spice up your salsa dancing ! (anyone welcome)- all levels
8pm-8.45pm Christmas Rueda (anyone welcome)
All 3 classes £7, 2 classes for £5, 1 for £3, all money goes to Azul Wasi project as usual.
Dancing for anyone after classes till 11ish (closing time numbers permitting ), £1 contribution for entry after 8.45pm goes to the charity for non class attenders.  All money goes to Azul wasi project.
Bring Santa hats or other festive wear to party, will be party games with prizes !  Please pass the word.

REMEMBER Latin Quarter on this Sat eve 20th Nov, 8pm till 12pm @ Club Romano,  16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ  ( just off Perth Road, near Dilsee restaurant)   If you’re new to Latin Quarter, its a latin night with music to dance to with a free beginners salsa class at 8pm.  Pay on the door £5/ £4 (students), all money raised goes to  help the Azul Wasi street children project in Peru.  See charities tab on website for more details about Azul wasi.  Please pass the word, there will also be a raffle on the evening with a hige hamper donated for the 1st prize !, thanks to the Brae Partnership.

Come and feel the spirit of Cuba with Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, Cuban dancer from the Ballet Folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba.  Night kicks off with a free beginners salsa class at 9pm, followed by latin music for dancing, Cuban dance performance and line ups.

Friday 22nd Oct, @ The Chamber Suite, Panmure St, Dundee DD1 1ED 9pm till late.

Help required for charity event – Floods in Pakistan

The Student International society have asked the salsa crowd to help them out with a big fundraising night for the floods in Pakistan. They would like  to do a short performance followed by something on the model of Nick Child’s Salsa Ceilidh. It is on August the 27th, perrforming isn’t required, but the more bodies the better it will look, and the easier to do any Salsa Ceilidh acitivity.  Contact Will at wildbill20052006@aol.com,if you can help.
