Latin Quarter salsa classes moving to Tayside Deaf Hub, The Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee DD1 5EF, from tue 24th Jan.

6.30pm NEW beginners cross body salsa class -10 week block £30 or £4 per class, join first 2 weeks only.  7.15pm Improvers/ Intermediate cross body salsa class.  8.05pm Improvers/ Intermediate Cuban Rueda class. Classes £4 per class or £20 for 6 week pass.

Timings are stricter as paying for hall, please come 10 min early to pay & register for beginners class on 24th Jan.  To reserve spaces please email  sarahbrox@gmail.com.  Please pop a poster up if you can to pass the word.

Thanks & yearly review

Many thanks to everyone who came to the SPICE night on Saturday and supporters of Latin Quarter events & classes.  We raised £278 on Sat for the Azul Wasi project.  That makes a grand total of £7,450 raised in 2011 for Azul Wasi and £61,646 raised in total since 2002 for Azul Wasi & £5, 917 for other charities which is fantastic.  So a BIG thanks to all the Latin Quarter supporters & a VERY Happy festive period to everyone, hope to see you in the New Year, keep dancing !

Remember £2 DISCOUNT on pre paid tickets from Grouchos ( Dundee) for LATIN QUARTER CHARITY SALSA BAND NIGHT.  Spice up your life with Latin band Son Al Son, bound to get up up dancing or toe tapping !   The Friary is a large hall with huge dance floor, The Friary is the large building on left on Tullideph Rd as turn off Lochee Road, Dundee DD2 2PN.   Tickets £10 (£7 students) in advance from Grouchos, or £12 or £9 (stu) on the door.   Groups can reserve a table for between 8 & 12 people by emailing sarahbrox@gmail.com.  Please help advertise , click on the poster & pop one up somewhere if you can.

Tickets on sale now for LATIN QUARTER CHARITY SALSA BAND NIGHT with Son Al Son, Latin band on Sat 7th May at The Friary, Tullideph Rd, Dundee DD2 2PN   Doors open 8pm, salsa beginners class at 8.15pm, on till 12.30am.  Raffle too.  Venue has large wooden dance floor.  Money raised for the Azul Wasi project for street children near Cusco, Peru.

Information about the band, Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Bongos) Eric Alfonso (Congas) and from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet)with Lino Rocha on Vocals and Guiro and Simon Gall on Piano and Vocals.  As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba,Son al Son have recreated this sound to bring a little bit of Havana to you.  Son al Son play a lively set of traditional Cuban songs guaranteed to get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!.

Spice up your life at Latin Quarter, come along to support the Azul Wasi street childrens project in Peru  and see African drumming with the fantastic AFRODISIAC playing West African rhythms, including the occasional bit of singing and dancing too. We also have Flamenco dancing with fabulous FLAMENCO JUEVES and try a Salsa beginners class ( 8.15pm). SPICE NIGHT – FRI 1st April

Latin Quarter Spice night on Fri 1st April,  8pm till 12.30am at The Chamber Suite, Panmure St, Dundee DD1 1ED  a night of latin dancing ( much like a normal Latin Quarter night but with the added SPICE of performances from the Spice countries).  So far we have the brilliant AFRODISIAC and others TBC.  The AFRODISIAC group are from all over Angus and have been together for over 10 years, they play West African rhythms, including the occasional bit of singing and dancing too.
