MANY THANKS from Latin Quarter to everyone who supported the band night last Friday at The Invercarse. The night raised £741 (after all costs for band, PA, advertising etc) for the Azul Wasi project. A big thanks to everyone that helped during the night, donated raffle prizes and took part in the Rueda demo.

A week to go !! until the LATIN QUARTER CHARITY BAND NIGHT with the groovy live band SON al SON @ The Invercarse Hotel, 371 Perth Rd, Dundee, DD2 1PG on Fri 27th April. 8.00pm till 1am,with free Salsa beginners class at 8.15pm. Tickets £12 (£10 students) on door or £2 DISCOUNT in advance from sarah at classes or via sarahbrox@gmail.com also from Grouchos in Dundee ( cash only). There’s a raffle on the night, Peru goods for sale and a Rueda dance demo. Tables can be reserved via sarahbrox@gmail.com for 10 to 12 people for prepaid ticket holders.
The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba and Scotland. Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba, Son al Son have recreated this sound to bring a little bit of Havana to you. Son al Son play a lively set of traditional Cuban songs guaranteed to get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!.

CONTINUING Beginners salsa class on Tuesdays @ Tayside Deaf Hub
12 04 2012Next block of 5 weeks continuing beginners classes starts on 24th April 6.30-7.15pm at the Tayside Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St. £4 per class or £15 for 5 week block pass. This class is suitable for the cross body salsa students who previously attended the Tuesday beg CB salsa class & the thursday mono CB salsa classes before Easter. Any new students wishing to join the class should be able to do cross body moves with confidence and the cross body inside turn move. Enquires email sarahbrox@gmail.com.

Latin Quarter charity latin social night – Fri 23rd March

Latin Quarter latin social night – Friday 23rd March @ Tayside Deaf Hub,The Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee DD1 5EF. If you are fairly new to Salsa or latin dancing come along to meet fellow salseros ! Anyone welcome. All money raised goes to the Azul Wasi project in Peru for former street children. Evening will start with a Bachata workshop – all levels, suitable for total beginners & also something for those with Bachata experience. Will also be a salsa taster class too for any newcomers. Pay on the door. £8/£7 (students) entry to LQ and workshop, or £5/£4 (stu) after 9pm, on till 12pm. Will be raffle on eve, donations welcome. Please pass the word & pop a poster up if you can.

Cuban band Sierra Maestra in Edinburgh- Wed 7th March
4 03 2012Just one week to go until Cuban band Sierra Maestra astound us with their talent, live at The Jam House in Edinburgh! Sierra Maestra have been stars of Cuban music ever since the late 1970s and return to the UK this March after playing a key part in the recent worldwide boom in Cuban traditional music. Like vintage rum, they just get better and better!

Bannockburn Salsa night next Friday -17th Feb
11 02 2012Bannockburn Salsa night – Regular monthly social night with Filipe & Anne & DJ Lorna (3rd fris of the month). Definitely worth travelling for folks, a few folks are planning to go through from Dundee.
