Latin Quarter charity social – Saturday 25th March at the Forthill Sports Club (function suite), Fintry Place, Broughty Ferry, DD5 3BL, see directions below & google map. Doors open at 8pm with a beginners taster salsa class followed by latin music & dancing till 12.30am.  Entry to social £5/£4 (students), pay on door. Directions :
From bottom road from Dundee towards broughty ferry ( A930), turn left up fort street which leads onto forthill road, go up hill then take right turn onto Fintry Place, when you see school on right side, take left turn down a small road, signposted to sports centre on fence, follow road around to right, continue to car park. Building is to right hand side & upstairs (not sports centre on left side).

Tuesday 31st January is the last week to join the New Beginner Cuban Style Salsa classes  at the Deaf Hub. See Class tab for directions. 9 week progressive class, £31.50 for the remaining 9 week pass or £5 a class  (Students who are already competent in cross body salsa can join week 3 or 4, please email in advance).  Class will involve partner dancing initially leading on to the Cuban Rueda ( wheel dance). No partner necessary, anyone welcome. Time 6.15- 7.10pm. Casual clothing is fine with shoes that stay on feet securely with a slippy sole preferably. There is NO car parking in the Old Mill car park as this is private, please park on Brown St. Email sarahbrox@gmail.com for more details. Please pass the word. LQ Christmas social with Festive Rueda taster class

Latin Quarter Christmas social will be on tues 13th Dec at 8.00pm at The Deaf Hub, with a workshop at 7.15pm  a festive themed Rueda, the Cuban wheel dance , suitable for beginners,  anyone welcome.   Latin social starts at 8pm till 10pm . Workshop is 5 pounds, social 3 pounds, combo for both is 6. There will be a raffle and an auction for dundee united match tickets worth 64 pounds. There will also be a few party games too and mince pies.  All money raised for Azul wasi project in Peru.   PLEASE PASS THE WORD.  See class page for directions to the Deaf Hub. Many thanks to all those who came on Sat eve to the Charity band event at The Friary, we raised £350 for the Azul Wasi project.  With special thanks to all those that helped sell tickets, bring people, advertise the event, help on the night, donate raffle prizes and thanks to those who came from further a field.

Tickets £13 on door or £3 DISCOUNT in advance from Grouchos (cash only) or from sarah at classes this tuesday.  Bar and a raffle. Tables can be reserved via same email for 8 minimum for prepaid ticket holders. Information about the band.

The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Venezuela, Lino Rocha(lead vocals and hand percussion)  from Cuba, Wilder Mesa Moya,(Lead Vocals and Congas) and Eric Alfonso (Timbales), from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass),Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Euan Allardice (Trumpet), from USA Michael Meyer (Trombone).

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto De Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.

Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo along with original compositions,Juanito,Cimarron and Morena bring  a more‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to their set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!
