 with the groovy live band SON al SON @ The Friary, Tullideph Rd, Dundee, DD2 2PN on Fri 13th Nov. 8pm-1am.  Free Salsa beginners class at 8.15pm. Tickets £12 on door or £2 DISCOUNT in advance from Grouchos, sarah at classes or via sarahbrox@gmail.com. Will be a raffle on the night. Tables can be reserved via same email for 8 minimum for prepaid ticket holders. Details also on www.salsadundee.com.   Anyone welcome.  Will be bar.  All money raised for the Azul Wasi project in Peru near Cusco, home for former street children.
Information about the band.

 The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Congas) Eric Alfonso (Timbales)from Venezuela,Lino Rocha (lead vocals and hand percussion) from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass),Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Euan Allardice (Trumpet).

As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto De Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.

Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo and original songs to bring  a more ‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to there set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!

Note: They changed their name to Salsonique for a while but have changed it back to Son al Son recently.

Latin Quarter Social & workshops – Tues 30th June @ Club Romano

Club Romano, 16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ.  Directions :just off perth road up side street West Wynd next to Curry shop on corner, walk up street past Turf & timber blue sign, Club is next building on left with red door, there is no sign for Club Romano.

Evening details :  Merengue dance taster, 6.30pm- £4,  Bachata workshop, 7.15 – 8.15pm- £5.  Social,  latin music for dancing 8.15-10.30pm, £3- anyone welcome to come for any of the classes & social, no previous experience needed. The usual Deaf Hub classes at usual times are running on tues 23rd June at Club Romano, 16 West Wynd, Dundee DD1 4JQ. (off perth road up side street just down from Dilsee ).

Latin Quarter Social- Tues 30th June – Timings. Usual Beginners class will be at 6.30pm (closed class).

Bachata workshop – anyone welcome- 7.30 – 8.15pm- £5.  Social 8.15-10.30pm, £3- anyone welcome. – latin music for dancing. 5 hour WORLD MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA – Pupy concert- Glasgow

Anyone else interested in this event email sarahbrox@gmail.com before next Tuesday, need 3 more people to get the discount tickets of £20 instead of £35.
Should be a great night with band Pupy Y Los Que Son Son and live performances and dancing.
 There is a dress code mentioned on the tickets- Smart dress, No jeans or trainers. Over 18s only and under 25s need ID to purchase alcohol.  Also the organisers sent this info:
“You may be pleased to also know that we have arranged with a casino to use their restaurant from 3am to 6pm for a chilled early breakfast with a live Latin jazz band. This is to make it possible for people coming from outwith Glasgow to attend without having to book rooms at a hotel. They can just get back on their train, flight or bus afterwards”.
