Latin Quarter CUBAN FEVER night

Friday 10th October 7.15 – 12 pm @ Dundee Social Club,
1, Thistle Street, Dundee, DD3 7RF.

Come and feel the spirit of Cuba with Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, former Cuban dancer from Ballet Folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba. There will be 2 dance workshops at the start (see below) and Yamil will be spicing up the dance floor with his infectious animations (line ups) and energy and a performance. Dress code for the night- blue, red & white or anything Cuban themed, anyone got a Tropicana outfit ??

The night will have a Cuban feel but there will be a mix of music (cross body and Cuban salsa, bachata with a few Son/Kizomba etc).

This venue has a large dance floor, please come and help fill it ! Also a licensed bar with card machine. Please pass the word. Come in the front door & the function room is upstairs.

Dance workshops with Yamil on the 10th October
7pm – Improvers/Intermediate Cuban partnerwork (Cuban salsa dance experience required) – £7 class only
7.45pm – Son Cubano dance (Son is a partner dance and also music, considered to be the ‘father’ of salsa) – £7 class only (suitable for those with beginners salsa dance experience or above)

Then there will be a free Beginners Rueda taster class with Sarah

Music for dancing 9pm – 12 midnight
Social only – £7 ( £5, students with ID card).
Combo pass – 1 class & eve social £10,
2 classes & eve social – £12

Children can attend social, (not classes), young children need to leave venue by 10pm, teenagers can probably stay till the end. Entry for children, £2 for social.
Pay on the door, CASH ONLY for classes & entry. Please bring along friends & family & help raise money for charity while having fun ! There will be a raffle too. Raffle prizes are always gratefully appreciated.

All money raised goes to the Azul Wasi home, near Cusco for former street children in Peru.

LAST WEEK to JOIN NEW Beginners Salsa Classes starting Jan 2025

28th January is the last week to JOIN the NEW Latin Quarter Beginners Salsa class , 6.15-7.15pm, at The Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee. DD1 5EF, can join first 2 weeks only.

9 week block pass £36 or £5 per class weekly. CASH ONLY. Beginners class dancers please come 10 to 15 min early to register & pay.

Classes are progressive, anyone welcome, no partner necessary. Directions to Deaf hub on class page at www.salsadundee.com. Please pass the word. All money raised for Azul Wasi project for former street children in Peru.

Please note : there is no car parking outside the deaf hub (may get a parking ticket), best to park on Brown street.

Casual clothes are fine and best to wear shoes with a slippy sole , like a leather sole  but fit securely on feet though. Although most regular shoes are fine. 

The other 2 higher level classes will start back on 21st January too,

7.25pm Improver/ Intermediate Cross Body salsa

8.20pm Cuban Salsa – Rueda de Casino

These classes run continuously and not in blocks of classes. £30 for any 6 classes ticket or £6 a class CASH only. Email first to check level please if not already in these classes then we can see which classes will best fit your level of experience.

Latin Quarter presents Latina Turners Orchestra, FIRST TIME in Dundee, on Friday 1st November @ Dundee Social Club, 1 Thistle Street, Dundee DD3 7RF 

Event is 7.45pm till midnight with a free taster beginners salsa class @ 8pm, band will play 2 sets, starting around 9pm.  DJ Sarita will also be playing bachata, with a splash of salsa & kizomba. Programme to follow.

 The venue has a large dance floor, a licensed bar and a fund raising raffle for Azul Wasi in the break.  NOTE : Raffle will be pre drawn on the night, to allow maximum dancing time and only top 5 prizes called out, remainder of prizes will be on a table to check your ticket numbers. Also no long speeches.

LATIN QUARTER Classes starting back Sept 7th

NEW Beginners cross body style Salsa,  6.15-7.05pm, classes start tues 7th September at The Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee. Please email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com to book a space as may need to limit numbers in the room, not sure yet.

10 week block pass £35 or £5 per class weekly. Can join first 2 weeks only. Beginners class please come 10 to 15 min early to register & pay. Classes are progressive, Anyone welcome, no partner usually necessary as usually we change partners in the class, however this may be a difficulty if people don’t want to change partners due to Covid.  I think you need to wear a mask at present too and provide details for test and trace. Will update nearer the time if further issues as need an update from the venue to see if any cleaning required in between classes.  Please bring some hand sanitizer to do regularly.

NOTE : Other 2 classes below are higher level classes and only open to those with experience, please contact teacher in advance to check level to join if new to Latin quarter classes. The class times are slightly reduced as need to collect test and trace details and may be other covid jobs to do in between classes. Please come 5 to 10 min early to register and pay. Will be class pass option of £20 for 6 classes or £4 per class.  
There will be options in classes for those who do not wish to change partners and for those who do hopefully but as this is all new we will have to assess partner situation each session if you do not come with one. 
Improvers / intermediate Cross body salsa 7.15 – 8pm 
Cuban salsa class 8.15 to 9.05pm.  This class will be Cuban partner work only NOT rueda initially.  Also if not enough couples this class may not run, will assess situation in first 2 weeks.  If class does not run thinking to do a Beginners Bachata fusion class instead and an occasional Cuban partnerwork or rueda class for those with experience already.

Shinetastic class, Tues 23rd Feb @7pm

Shinetastic class, next Tuesday (23rd) at 7pm on ZOOM, 40 min salsa shines (footwork) workout like last December but this time will go over a few of the shines. You’ll need basic salsa steps to join. The shines will be mostly from the Tuesday Deaf Hub Latin Quarter cross body class warm up with abit from the cuban class warm up too. If you have the basic salsa steps you should be able to follow hopefully.

Email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com for a space asap and then details of how to donate and the zoom link will be sent out. Suggested donations for the shines session is £ 4 – £5 each, but if people want to donate less or more that’s fine. We’re aware people are all in different circumstances financially at present. As usual all donations go to the Azul Wasi project in Peru.

Delay for improvers bachata & On2 Salsa workshop this tuesday

We are 1 week behind in the Bachata beginners fusion class, so can any Improver bachata dancers wishing to join the class please come in week 6 instead, on 18th February (tues, 6.15pm, deaf hub) when we will be stepping the pace up abit. Classes £5 each, or Improver 5 week pass is £17.

Also remember it’s Yuno’s On 2 Salsa workshop at 7.20pm this tuesday 11th Feb at the Deaf Hub too, see below.

Guest Teacher Yuno will be teaching a Salsa On2 taster workshop at Latin Quarter, Deaf Hub classes on Tuesday February 11th at 7.20pm for £5 ( cash only). Salsa on2, also known as New York Mambo, is a form of crossbody style salsa which originated in New York in the 1970s and is popular in many cities around the world today. This 1-hour taster workshop will show you the difference between on1 and on2 timings through basic steps and simple moves.
It’s always good to learn more about timing and different styles of salsa dancing, as this will enhance your dancing skills overall.  Hope you can come along to support Yuno’s love and enthusiasm for On 2 salsa, it’s a great class !
