Chamber Suite Salsa Classes

The last salsa classes at The Chamber Suite before the summer break is Tuesday the 19th July.  There will be music for dancing after classes each week until the 19th July till around 10pm if there is demand.

Classes will begin again on Tue 13th September.  NEW Beginners Cuban Salsa Class starts on the 13th Sept- 6.45pm.  10 week block £30 or £4 per class.

Also on Tuesdays.    7.15-Improvers/ Intermediate cross body salsa, 8.15- Cuban Rueda ( no new entrants unless have Rueda experience). Classes £4 per class or £15 pass for 5 classes.  All money raised goes to the Azul Wasi home for street children in Peru.

Social dancing on Monday eves

Will has organised for some social dancing ( latin music ) at the Mark Henderson Centre on Mondays from 8:15pm through to at least 9:45pm. Costs £2/£1 Students.  Proceeds go to Signpost International.  Hope some of you can go along to support it folks.

Salsa North events

Some of you may be interested in these events up north : Rohan Brown in July with a live Latin Band. Beginners class with a Zumba warm up before Rohan takes over. Poster attached & web link is www.salsanorth.co.uk  Mixture of NY X body and Cuban style but focus will be on Cuban for this event with Rohan.  Students can buy tickets online and Jermaine can help you find B&B accommodation if required.  Also there may still be a few places left for the Lismore event next weekend.

Band at Duke’s Corner, Dundee- Sat 11th June

Band Dias Quartet on this Saturday (11th June) at The Duke’s Corner, Dundee. They mainly do Brazilian stuff but also a bit of Salsa/Cuban, and it’s free entry. Music starts at 9.30pm.

Elena invites people to an evening at Abertay Student Union, full of Salsa, Bachata and Merengue, on Wednesday, the 11th of May, everyone is welcome to join in. It starts off at 8.30 pm with a beginners Salsa class and the entrance is free. Remember £2 DISCOUNT on pre paid tickets from Grouchos ( Dundee) for LATIN QUARTER CHARITY SALSA BAND NIGHT.  Spice up your life with Latin band Son Al Son, bound to get up up dancing or toe tapping !   The Friary is a large hall with huge dance floor, The Friary is the large building on left on Tullideph Rd as turn off Lochee Road, Dundee DD2 2PN.   Tickets £10 (£7 students) in advance from Grouchos, or £12 or £9 (stu) on the door.   Groups can reserve a table for between 8 & 12 people by emailing sarahbrox@gmail.com.  Please help advertise , click on the poster & pop one up somewhere if you can.

Tickets on sale now for LATIN QUARTER CHARITY SALSA BAND NIGHT with Son Al Son, Latin band on Sat 7th May at The Friary, Tullideph Rd, Dundee DD2 2PN   Doors open 8pm, salsa beginners class at 8.15pm, on till 12.30am.  Raffle too.  Venue has large wooden dance floor.  Money raised for the Azul Wasi project for street children near Cusco, Peru.

Information about the band, Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Bongos) Eric Alfonso (Congas) and from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet)with Lino Rocha on Vocals and Guiro and Simon Gall on Piano and Vocals.  As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba,Son al Son have recreated this sound to bring a little bit of Havana to you.  Son al Son play a lively set of traditional Cuban songs guaranteed to get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar!
