BIG thanks to everyone who came to support the social and workshops with Yamil this weekend. We raised £532 in total ( after out goings) for the Azul Wasi project in Peru. Big thanks to those who helped on the night on the door, with the raffle and who donated prizes and with taxi dancing. BIG thanks to YAMIL too who brought his infectious energy and fun to help spice up the dance floor with the line ups and performances.

24 11 2018Hi folks, Hope you enjoyed a little taste of Cuban spirit last night with Yamil, was a fun night, thanks to everyone who came. Hoping some of you can support the workshops TODAY- 12-3pm for folks with improver or above level Cuban salsa experience (see below). There is also a Cuban rumba class at 3pm for anyone, £6, no dance experience necessary for this class. For Rumba class, if possible ladies bring a scarf and men a hankerchief. Don’t miss this chance for classes with Yamil from Cuba, it’s not very often we get such a great opportunity locally folks.
Please come 10 mins before class start time to register. Venue not open until 11.45am though, they are at the The Blackwatch club, 20 Arthurstone terrace, Dundee also no bar so bring own snacks & soft drinks, no alcohol allowed.

Cuban dance Masterclasses with Yamil Cuedo Ferrera
Sat 24th Nov 12-4pm
@ The Black Watch Club, 20 Arthurstone Terrace, Dundee DD4 6RS.
Classes will be 50 minutes long each. The venue will be open from 11.45am, please come 10 minutes before classes start to register if possible especially if still need to pay for classes. The first 3 classes are for dancers with improver level (or above) Cuban salsa dance experience. These classes are not for beginners.
The last class at 3pm, Rumba Guaguanco, will be suitable for beginners and dancers with some cuban or cross body salsa experience.
Please note :
Bring your own soft drinks to hydrate for the classes, as no bar. No alcohol allowed in the room.
Classes
12 noon- Cuban Improvers Partnerwork class
1pm – Cuban Intermediate Partnerwork class
2pm – Cuban Rueda de Casino (Improvers/ intermediate level)
3pm – Rumba Guaguanco – class open to anyone including beginners. I’ll bring some rumba skirts, but don’t have enough for everyone. We will learn the basic Rumba steps, a short routine then see how you can add this into Salsa dancing.
Advance class prices : 1 class – £8, 2 classes- £14, 3 classes -£18, All 4 – £20
On day prices :
Rumba Guaguanco class – £6
Cuban partner work or Rueda masterclasses – 1 class £10, 2 classes £18, 3 classes £23, all 4 – £25.

2 10 2018BIG thanks to everyone who came on Saturday to the Friary , it was a great night, very busy, just over 180 folks in the room I think including the band & bar staff. We raised £1,241 ( including the donation of £100 from A & J Stephen Builders) for the Azul Wasi project in Peru ( after outgoings which are just under £1120 to put the event on). This is a FANTASTIC amount to help towards the new shower and toilet block at Azul Wasi.
So big thanks to everyone who brought along friends/ family and to those who kindly donated all the raffle prizes too. Also thanks to all those who helped on the night and before the event with posters etc.

Information about Son al Son.
The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Latin America and Scotland. As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto De Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.
Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo along with original compositions,Juanito,Cimarron and Morena bring a more‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to their set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!
