A flavour of the recent 21st Anniversary celebration of Latin Quarter and Azul Wasi at the Marryat Hall in Dundee on the 14th June 2024.

This week on tuesday at Deaf Hub classes, there will be a Bachata Fusion class at 6.15pm instead of Salsa beginners, as the block has now finished, we will fill some gaps up until the summer break. The Bachata class will be suitable for beginners & improvers, something for all. The other 2 LQ classes will run as normal.
BIG THANKS to everyone who made it along last Friday to the Marryat Hall, Dundee for the 21st Anniversary Celebration for Azul Wasi & Latin Quarter. We were just over 200 and raised around £1,600 for the home (after outgoings which were considerable for this event), so that’s great. It’s approximate until I get the PRS bill. So that’s about £132,500 in total.

Tom Jolly sends his wishes to everyone and was sorry he could not be with us on Friday. I’ll post the update about Azul Wasi separately from Tom as I had to skim over it on Friday due to running late with the raffle and a couple of things didn’t quite go to plan during the break. Tom has been the main link between us in Dundee and Azul Wasi, for updates and helped with the link with Azul Wasi after my initial holiday to Peru. Tom also made the lovely table leaflets about Azul Wasi over the years.
It was nice to be back at the Marryat after 11 years, how many of you were there in 2013 at the 10th Anniversary party?

Soles del Peru, Peruvian folkloric dancers who we welcomed for the first time, it was lovely to see their performance and bring us a taste of Peru, particularly from the Cusco area – which is dear to my heart and where my journey with the children at Azul Wasi started in 2002 on holiday.

The dance group’s objective ”is to represent our beautiful country through the typical dances of the coastal mountains and jungle of Peru”.
In addition, Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, former Cuban dancer from Ballet Folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba (now based in Edinburgh) will be spicing up the dance floor with his fun and energetic animations !!

Latin Quarter 21st Anniversary Celebration with the groovy live Son al Son on Friday 14th June 2024 @ The Marryat Hall, Caird Hall Complex, City Square, Dundee DD1 3BG. 7.30pm till midnight. There will be a free beginners salsa class to get you started at 7.45pm. Band will play 2 sets, starting around 9pm. This is an exceptional latin music band and a rare opportunity to experience latin music in Dundee with a large fully sprung dance floor, decorated in Louis XV Style ! Please come and help fill it ! There will be a limit on numbers of around 220.

Son al Son was formed in 2008, and is made up of musicians from Latin America, Spain, and Scotland. They play energetic son and salsa songs from the likes of Compay Segundo and the Buena Vista Social Club through to classic salsa dura. Fronted by well-known Venezuelan singer Lino Rocha and driven by seasoned salsa musicians, Son al Son is guaranteed to make you move. A Gozar! Enjoy!
Tickets are £15 in advance and £17 on the door. Purchase in advance from the Deaf Hub in Dundee on Tuesday nights during LQ classes or Wednesday nights during Tania’s classes. Latin Quarter Social Tuesday 23rd April @ the Deaf Hub.
After the existing beginners salsa class there will be a Bachata Fusion class at 7.30pm . The class will be suitable for total beginners aswell as improvers plus. Class is followed by the social from 8.30pm till 10.30pm. Anyone is welcome to come to the Bachata class and social. It’s an opportunity to meet other dancers and practice moves from classes. I know it’s early in the new beginners block, but best to start practicing those steps early on ! Dance class only – £5, Social £3, Combo Workshop & social £6. CASH ONLY. There will be NO bar but you can bring your own drinks including alcoholic ones. There will be a few snacks and soft drinks on sale. Will also be a raffle, donations always welcome.
