Latin Quarter Charity Live Band night – Nov 22 with Son al Son

Only 10 days to go ! Come & enjoy some latin spirit with the groovy live SON al SON band @ The Invercarse Hotel, 371 Perth Rd, Dundee, DD2 1PG on Fri 22nd Nov. 8pm-1am. There’s a free Salsa beginners class at 8.15pm to get any newcomers started. The band are FANTASTIC, a rare opportunity to have space to dance to a live salsa band on a huge wooden floor.

The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Cuba, Ricardo Fernandes Pompa,(Lead Vocals and Congas), Eric Alfonso (Timbales) from Venezuela, Lino Rocha (lead vocals and hand percussion) from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass), Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Lorne Cowieson (Trumpet).
As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto Del Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba. Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo and original songs to bring a more ‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to their set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Mono classes- class date changes
4 11 2013Classes will run this thursday as usual in MONO, doing 2 new moves this week so try to make class. There is a change, NO class on thurs 14th Nov, but will be classes on 21st & 28th Nov (both on floor 5) , then for the final week on 5th Dec back in Mono. Remember band night on fri 22nd Nov too.

Tuesday Deaf Hub class change for 1st Oct
25 09 2013For 1 week only the Improvers/ Intermed Rueda class will run at 7.15 to 8pm, so there will be no 7.15 cross body salsa class next week, please pass the word. The beginners class 6.30-7.15pm will run as normal, apologises for any inconvenience. In addition the problem with the floor was due to a cleaning product used on the floor.

Thursday 26th Sept is last week to join NEW Beginners cross body style salsa classes in MONO, downstairs in Dundee University union building. 6-7pm, remaining 9 week block – £27 ( stu), £32 non students. Tuesday class attenders @Deaf Hub
21 09 2013Have spoken to Deaf Hub venue re floor again and the substance causing problems for the cleaner is a chalky one, so no talc or other like substances on shoes allowed as this gets on other surfaces around the building including the carpets which is hard to clean. Many thanks.

Notice for Tuesday salsa class attenders @ Deaf Hub
18 09 2013I have been informed that the dance floor has needed extra time to clean it past 2 weeks and that I will be charged extra if this continues so can I ask that everyone check their footwear and make sure the shoes won’t mark the floor. So no sticky trainers/ dark rubber soled shoes/trainers that might mark the floor & no rubber clog style shoes in case these mark the floor. I am awaiting more information as not clear at moment what has caused the problem.
