13th Anniversary party : LATIN QUARTER CHARITY BAND NIGHT with the groovy live band SON al SON @ The Friary, Tullideph Rd, Dundee, DD2 2PN on Saturday 22nd October, 2016, 8pm- 1am. Free Salsa beginners class at 8.15pm. Tickets £13 on door or £3 DISCOUNT in advance from Grouchos (cash only), sarah at classes or via sarahbrox@gmail.com. Will be a bar and a raffle on the night. Tables can be reserved via same email for 8 minimum for prepaid ticket holders. Anyone welcome, no partner necessary. Information about the band.
The band Son al Son was formed in 2008. Its line-up is made up of musicians from Venezuela, Lino Rocha(lead vocals and hand percussion) from Cuba, Wilder Mesa Moya,(Lead Vocals and Congas) and Eric Alfonso (Timbales), from Scotland, Bob Thomson (Bass),Simon Gall (Piano and Vocals) and Euan Allardice (Trumpet), from USA Michael Meyer (Trombone).
As the name suggests, Son al Son play son, a style of music made popular in 1920’s Havana and more recently in the film “Buena Vista Social Club”. To this day, songs like Chan Chan, El Cuarto De Tula and Dos Gardenias are played in cafes and bars across Cuba.
Son al Son have added songs from La Excelencia, Cubanismo along with original compositions,Juanito,Cimarron and Morena bring a more‘salsa dura’ (hard salsa!) feel to their set. Along with the ‘traditional’ songs (with a salsa twist!) and the modern salsa songs,we’re sure Son al Son will get your feet tapping and out of your seat in no time, Gozar! Enjoy!

New Beginners Salsa classes start on tues 13th September ( see full details below). Please come 10 mins early if possible to register. Car parking at the Old Mill is reserved parking only, so you may get a ticket, please park on Brown street instead.
NEW Cross body style Salsa beginners classes starting Tues 13th Sept , 6.15-7.10pm, at The Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee. 10 week block pass £35, or £5 per class weekly. Classes are progressive, no partner necessary, anyone welcome. Can join first 2 weeks only (unless by prior arrangement if already done salsa before, could join in week 4 but- please email in advance regarding this). Saturday, 27th August 2016 at 8:00 PM until midnight, At St Aidan’s Centre – 408 Brook Street, Broughty Ferry, Dundee DD5 2EH. With a beginners salsa workshop at 8:30 pm.

Latin Quarter Summer Social @ The Deaf Hub

Will be a Cha Cha Taster class, from 7.15 until 8.15pm, followed by the social until 10pm. Workshop only, £5, social only £ 3, combo ticket is £6. Will have a small raffle too, if anyone has anything they would like to donate.
