Salsa Dundee

Latin Quarter presents Latina Turners Orchestra, their debut in Dundee, on Friday 1st November.

Venue: Dundee Social Club, 1 Thistle Street, Dundee DD3 7RF 

Event is 7.45pm till midnight with a free taster beginners salsa class @ 8pm, band will play 2 sets, starting around 9pm.  DJ Sarita will also be playing bachata, with a splash of salsa & kizomba. Programme to follow. 

 The venue has a large dance floor, a licensed bar and a fund raising raffle for Azul Wasi in the break.  It’s still the 21st anniversary year, so why not celebrate it twice ? hope you can all join us and celebrate 21 years of the Azul Wasi (formerly Blooming Colibri) homes in Peru and Latin Quarter fund raising classes & events. Come and spice up your life ! and help raise money for Azul Wasi at the same time.

Children can also attend, £10 a ticket accompanied with adult ticket  holder and need to be supervised by an adult and have to leave function by 10pm.

If anyone knows a potential sponsor/ organisation who may like to donate some money towards the event in exchange for advertising, please get in touch asap.

Latin Quarter brings you a MINI Dance Festival 

on  Saturday 28th September @ The Black Watch Club, 20 Arthurstone Terrace, Dundee DD4 6RS 

Teachers : 

 Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, former Cuban dancer from Ballet Folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba teaching 3 Cuban dance workshops. Come & feel some cuban spirit !l  

Tania from SBK Dundee, who is very passionate about dance and teaching Kizomba, a dance originating from Angola.  Kizomba Fusion a mix of different styles such as traditional semba, urban kiz, taraxxinia, tango and others.  

Sarah from Latin Quarter, teaching different styles of dance for over 21 years will be teaching some salsa unisex shines (fancy footwork).

DANCE WORKSHOPS

11-11.50   Improvers/Intermediate Cuban Salsa partnerwork £7 (Cuban salsa experience required) 

12-12.50  Cuban Rueda de Casino (improver Rueda experience required)  -£7 

1 -1.50pm Cuban Son dance -£7 (need to be familiar with basic steps of any style of salsa)

2-2.45pm – Kizomba Fusion – £5 (suitable for beginners and improvers)

2.50pm-3.30pm – Salsa unisex shines (fancy footwork) -£4 ( suitable for anyone) 

Cuban dance combo pass ( all 3 Cuban classes) – £18

All day combo pass – £25

Doors will open to the venue only just before workshops begin at 10.50am, come in the building and up the stairs.

Casual clothes are fine and best to wear shoes with a slippy sole , like a leather sole  but fit securely on feet though. Although most regular shoes are fine.

Latin Quarter Cuban Fever latin party Friday 27th September 7.15 – 12 pm at the Blackwatch Club
20 Arthurstone Terrace, Dundee DD4 6RS. 

Come and feel the spirit of Cuba with Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, former Cuban dancer from Ballet Folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba. There are 2 dance workshops and Yamil will be spicing up the dance floor with his infectious animations (line ups) and a performance with live drumming.  
The night will have a Cuban feel but we’ll be playing a mix of music (cross body and Cuban salsa, bachata with a few Son/Kizomba etc).

7.15pm – Improvers/Intermediate Cuban partnerwork (Cuban salsa dance experience required) – £7

8pm – Rumba – Guaguanco  £7- A fun afro-cuban dance, use elements for styling in your salsa dancing, suitable for total beginners and above. suitable for total beginners and above. For the Rumba class try to bring a full long skirt, or a shawl if you are a follower, leaders bring a handkerchief if you can. I have a few full skirts from Cuba too.

8.45pm –  12 midnight, Social – £7 ( £5, students with card).
Combo pass – 1 class & eve social  £10,   2 classes & eve social – £15

Children can come to the social, but not the classes. Entry for children, £2 for social.

21st Anniversary Charity Celebration – 2nd Edition !!

Latin Quarter presents LATINA TURNERS ORCHESTRA, their debut in Dundee on Friday 1st November @ Dundee Social Club, 1 Thistle Street, Dundee DD3 7RF.

The band will play 2 sets, starting around 9pm. This is a fantastic latin music band and another rare opportunity this year to experience latin music in Dundee.
