Tuesday 14th November @ the Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee, DD1 5EF.

Bachata workshop for Beginners & Improvers at 7.30pm, followed by the Latin social from 8.30pm till 11pm.
Anyone is welcome to come to the workshop and social. It’s an opportunity to meet other dancers and practice moves from classes.
Bachata workshop only – £5, Social £3, Combo Workshop & social £6. CASH ONLY.

There will be NO bar but you can bring your own drinks including alcoholic ones. There should be a few snacks and soft drinks on sale.

There is a raffle, prizes are always very welcome if you have any donations, either bring to classes in advance or just on the night.

All money raised goes to the Azul Wasi project in Peru (except room hire fees).

There is no parking directly outside venue, park on Brown Street instead.

BIG THANKS to everyone who came to the Cuban Fever night with Yamil Cuedo Ferrera last FRiday, especially to those who came from afar. BIG thanks to YAMIL who brought his infectious energy and fun to help spice up the dance floor with the line ups and performance and for providing a glimpse into different Cuban dance styles. Big thanks to Fiona who did the door again and to the Blackwatch Club for hosting the evening. We raised a fabulous £475 ( after outgoings) for the Azul Wasi Project in Perufor former street children. Thanks to everyone who donated the raffle prizes and to Emma & Sheila for selling the tickets. I’ll post a few pictures/ videos soon, just checking some with a few people. For anyone who is interested in knowing more about the Colombia Rumba dance Yamil performed. There are 3 Afro – Cuban Rumba dances – Guaguancó, Yambú, and Columbia. The first 2 are danced with a partner usually, but Columbia is a male solo dance.

I hope you enjoyed the evening despite the technical issues, apologies for this, I checked the system last week using a different cable following some intermittent interference noise in September and it worked fine then, but it was still there on friday. So sorry for the delay at the start of the evening while setting up my PA which I can use from now if it’s not solved. In addition there was another issue with the playlist not playing tracks continuously so I could only set up to play 2 tracks at a time, a right pain. So I didn’t play some of the new Cuban salsa & bachata tracks unfortunately. It usually works fine without issues, so I’ll look at this and fix for next social on Friday 24th November at Dundee Social Club, it has a large dance floor and room with a bar, more details to follow soon. Please save the date & pass the word. The next Latin Quarter tuesday social will be 7th or 14th nov hopefully, am checking for room availability.

This Friday folks ! come & share some infectious latin spirit at Cuban fever at the Blackwatch Club. Please spread the word. Anyone welcome to come along to the social, workshops before the social with Yamil require some salsa dance experience, so are not for total beginners, please see workshop notes on event description regarding this, or email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com. Yamil will kick off the social at 8.30ish with a fun line up for everyone and will be doing a performance during the evening. Come and feel the spirit of Cuba with Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, former Cuban dancer from Ballet Folklorico Cutumba dance company, Santiago de Cuba. Social dancing starts at 8.30pm with a fun Cuban line up. The night will have a Cuban feel but we’ll be playing a mix of music (cross body and Cuban salsa, bachata with a few Son/Kizomba etc).

Dance workshops with Yamil on the 13th 7pm – Improvers/Intermediate Cuban partnerwork ( Cuban salsa dance experience required)7.45pm – Cuban Son – Suitable for those with Cuban dance experience or Cross body salsa experience.  Classes not suitable for total beginners to salsa. 

7pm – Cuban partner work  class-  £7 

7.45pm -Cuban Son – £7

8.30pm – Social – £7 ( £5, students with card).

Combo pass – 1 class & eve social  £12,   2 classes & eve social – £17

REMEMBER NO DEAF HUB LQ classes next tuesday ( 10th Oct), classes will be back to normal on the 17th Oct.

There is a 3 week Crossbody salsa to Cuban Rueda conversion class starting on Tuesday 17th October at 8.20pm, £4 per class – this will lead onto joining the current Rueda class ( cuban wheel dance). The usual Rueda class at 8.20pm will also run as normal during this 3 week period. The conversion course is only open to those who have good cross body Salsa skills already as meant to be a quick course. Those who already know some Cuban Salsa or abit of Rueda can also join the conversion class to brush up on skills. Apologises, there are no  Deaf Hub LQ dance classes on 26th September and 10th October due to leave, classes will run as usual on the other dates though. 

A very BIG thank you to everyone who came to the Latin Quarter Charity Social at the  Blackwatch Club on friday, especially those who came from afar.   We raised £400 in total for the children at the Azul Wasi project in Peru, which is fantastic ! Big thanks The club for hosting us and to the bar staff and to those who helped tidy up at the end. A special thank you to Tania for helping teach the Kizomba taster class and helping me with the tuesday classes for sometime now and to Ann for doing the door, and Emma for help with the raffle. Big thanks to Bill for donating the Blondie tickets and to everyone else who donated raffle prizes.

CLASS holidays : There are no  Deaf Hub LQ classes on September 26th September and October 10th due to my holidays, classes will run as usual on the other dates though.

UPDATE : There will be a free short 30 min salsa beginners taster after the kizomba class so about 8.20/ 30 pm but only if there are enough people who havent done salsa before, just to get people started.
