BIG thanks to everyone who came along to the Latin Quarter Social @ The Deaf Hub this Tuesday, especially the brave new beginners. Thanks for the raffle prize donations and to everyone who helped on the night and at the end of the night tidy up, great team work !
We raised £125.25 for Azul Wasi ( after room hire), from the class & social.
Remember the next Latin Quarter Friday social is Friday 28th February at the Black watch Club, details to follow soon.
BUT before then there are plenty of other opportunities to dance & socialise, there is Tania’s Love Dance Valentines SBK Dundee Social on fri 14th Feb @ The Black watch club & Jimmys social at Galiste Hall on sat 22nd Feb. The Dundee uni socials should be starting soon on fortnightly tuesdays after Deaf Hub classes at Dukes Corner down the road.
There are also other events outside Dundee aswell, Salsabor is on Sat 8th Feb in Glasgow, I can get a £5 discount for people on the advance full pass prices and there are lots of other socials in Edinburgh, Glasgow & Aberdeen too.

Unisex Shines class @ 7.25pm – The class will be suitable for total beginners and all levels. We will learn a routine of fancy footwork shines & styling to add some spice to your social dancing !
Followed by the social from 8.15pm till 10.30pm.
Anyone is welcome to come to the dance class and social. It’s an opportunity to meet other dancers and practice moves from classes.
Shines class only – £5, Social £3, Combo Workshop & social £7. CASH ONLY.
There will be NO bar but you can bring your own drinks including alcoholic ones. There will be a few snacks and soft drinks on sale in the cafe area next door. Will also be a raffle, donations always welcome. Money raised for the Azul Wasi Project in Peru for former street children via Peace Child International. Please pass the word.

Please note : there is no car parking outside the deaf hub (may get a parking ticket), best to park on Brown street.
Casual clothes are fine and best to wear shoes with a slippy sole , like a leather sole but fit securely on feet though. Although most regular shoes are fine.

BIG thanks to everyone who came along to the LQ Christmas social & workshops this tuesday and joined in the mad party games ! Thanks to those of you who came from afar & for all the raffle donations, there were a few unclaimed ones so I’ll pop them in the next one.
We raised £284.50 ( after room hire) for the Azul Wasi home in Peru. There is a wee Christmas message from the children in the Salsa Dundee – Latin Quarter facebook group, and pictures to follow there once sorted them.
So that’s the end of the year for Latin Quarter classes too, so a REALLY BIG thank you to everyone who has supported the Tuesday classes at the Deaf Hub this year and a BIG thank you to Tania for all her help with the classes & socials and to Susan & Hamish for assisting in classes too.
Merry Christmas to you all and have a great New Year. We raised over £144, 000 in total ( still need to add up total) for Azul Wasi in total since started all those years ago. Hope to see you all back at classes in the New Year, we will start back on tuesday 21st January, more details to follow soon.
Christmas Charity Latin Quarter Social – feel free to come in festive attire !
Tuesday 10th December @ the Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee, DD1 5EF. 7pm -7.45pm – Our usual Christmas Rueda de Casino silliness ! Rueda is a cuban wheel dance, the class will give you a taster of Rueda, beginners welcome. We’ll learn a few basic steps and some festive moves! 7.45pm-8.30pm -Mens & Ladies Styling class- this is a short choreo of steps/moves for men and ladies with styling. 8.30- 10.30pm – Social latin dancing (Salsa, Bachata & abit of Kizomba/ merengue music) with Christmas party games, a raffle and mince pies ! Raffle donations always gratefully appreciated. No dance experience necessary in advance for the classes, come along and have some festive fun and help raise money for the children at Azul Wasi , small home in Peru. Please pass the word amongst family and friends.
Rueda class only – £4, Styling class only £4 , Social only £3, combo ticket for all 3 is £8. CASH ONLY please. There will be NO bar but you can bring your own drinks including alcoholic ones. There should be a few snacks and soft drinks on sale in room next door. There is no parking directly outside venue, please park on Brown Street instead.
Latin Quarter New Bachata Fusion Classes , 4 week block @ The Deaf Hub, 7.25pm to 8.20pm Tuesdays starting 12th Nov, £5 a class. CASH only, please come 10 min early to register and pay. Class will be open to total beginners for first week only. BIG THANKS to EVERYONE who came on Friday to Dundee Social Club to support the 2nd Latin Quarter 21st Anniversary Charity night with the fantastic Latina Turners Orquestra. Special thanks to the band who brought us their latin spirit and played some lovely tunes. Really appreciate that some of the band gave up work time on Friday to get to Dundee in time to sound check & set up. Would also like to thank those of you who came from further afield too.
We raised a total of £680 (after all outgoings) for the children at Azul Wasi home in Peru. Big thanks to the venue bar staff, Mitch @ Audio Wave for sound and SAS advertising,. Many thanks to Fiona & Ann for looking after the entry & raffle and to Tania for continued support and help on the night. Thanks to Bob & Mark for helping load in the PA so it could get set in time. Big thanks to Tom Jolly who couldn’t be with us but made up the Azul Wasi table leaflets. There is a little video attached on Salsa Dundee Latin Quarter facebook group from the children.
Would also like to thank those who helped tidy up at the end of the night and for all the raffle donations. There were a few unclaimed prizes on table, if you left early and have your tickets still, send me a picture of the numbers and I can check if you won something.

Latin Quarter presents Latina Turners Orchestra, FIRST TIME in Dundee, on Friday 1st November @ Dundee Social Club, 1 Thistle Street, Dundee DD3 7RF
Event is 7.45pm till midnight with a free taster beginners salsa class @ 8pm, band will play 2 sets, starting around 9pm. DJ Sarita will also be playing bachata, with a splash of salsa & kizomba. Programme to follow.
The venue has a large dance floor, a licensed bar and a fund raising raffle for Azul Wasi in the break. NOTE : Raffle will be pre drawn on the night, to allow maximum dancing time and only top 5 prizes called out, remainder of prizes will be on a table to check your ticket numbers. Also no long speeches.
It’s still the 21st anniversary year, so why not celebrate it twice ? hope you can all join us and celebrate 21 years of the Azul Wasi (formerly Blooming Colibri) homes in Peru and Latin Quarter fund raising classes & events. Come and spice up your life ! and help raise money for Azul Wasi at the same time.
All tickets are NON refundable but transferable to another person, contact LQ salsadundee@gmail.com to transfer a name though. Online tickets will stop at midnight on 30th October to allow admin time.
There will be a limit on numbers for the room, so get your ticket before they sell out !

If anyone knows a potential sponsor/ organisation who may like to donate some money towards the event in exchange for advertising, please get in touch asap. Raffle prize donations would be greatly appreciated, will be advertising on the night & on facebook in advance for larger donations.
