LATIN QUARTER RETRO NIGHT SOCIAL

7.30pm – 8.15pm – Unisex Shines Class. Suitable for total beginners and all levels. We will learn a routine of fancy footwork shines & styling to add some spice to your social dancing !

8.15pm to 8.45pm – Free Salsa beginners class for anyone attending the social.
8.45pm to Midnight – Music for dancing

This will be the first Latin Quarter RETRO night, I’ll be digging out my old DJ playlist CDs ! from 2002/3 when I first started Latin Quarter socials and selecting the best classic tunes. Expect some cool Salsa & Bachata tracks from the 60s/70s with a few more recent classics thrown in, together with a splash of older Merengue & Kizomba tunes !

Come as you are or dress in something Retro inspired !

This venue has a large dance floor, come in the front door & the function room is upstairs.

BIG thanks to everyone who came along to the Latin Quarter Deaf hub social last night, we raised £212 after outgoings, for the children at Azul Wasi, which is great. Thank you to Tania for helping with the classes and setting up/down or the social and to Hamish for helping with the Bachata class. Thanks for the raffle prize donations too.

Our next Latin Quarter Social is friday 13th June @ Dundee Social Club, this is a Retro night social, so expect some classic salsa & bachata golden oldies from the 60s/70s with a few more recent classics thrown in, together with a splash of older Merengue & Kizomba tunes !

Latin Quarter Social Tuesday 3rd June @ the Deaf Hub

Bachata Fusion class @ 7.25pm – The class will be suitable for total beginners and improvers plus. Bachata is a dance from the Dominican Republic and often danced equally at latin socials along with Salsa, so good to get a few steps to share on the dance floor !

Followed by the social dancing 8.15pm till 10.30pm.

Anyone is welcome to come to the dance class and social. It’s an opportunity to meet other dancers and practice moves from classes.

Bachata class only – £5, Social only £3, Combo Workshop & social £7 , Student Combo ticket – £5 with ID.
Children, £2 for social only. CASH ONLY.

There will be NO bar but you can bring your own drinks including alcoholic ones & snacks (no peanuts though please incase anyone has an allergy) . There will be some snacks and soft drinks on sale in the cafe area next door at the Deaf Hub. Its also a Community shop, please support the Deaf Hub by buying drinks & snacks there if you can.

Will also be a raffle, donations always welcome.

As mentioned in classes last week, please save the dates for next 2 Latin Quarter socials on tuesday 3rd June @ the Deaf Hub and Friday 13th June, @ Dundee Social Club more details coming soon.

There will be a 3 to 5 week Cross body Salsa to Cuban Rueda conversion class starting on 20th May, tuesdays at 8.20pm at the deaf hub. For anyone with a a good grasp of cross body salsa skills or for those who know abit of Cuban salsa or rueda and want to brush up on skills and learn the Cuban rueda wheel dance to go on to join the existing rueda class. The usual rueda class is also running as normal at 8.20pm for existing students. £6 a class for conversion class or £30 for a 6 week pass, you can use any 6 weeks, doesn’t need to be consecutive weeks.

Big thanks to everyone who came along on Friday to the Latin Quarter social. We raised £363 from the event for the Azul Wasi home in peru which is great. Thank you to the Black watch Club and staff, to Ann and Alan for doing the door, and to Angie and Sheila for doing the raffle tickets. Also big thanks Alessio for the amination and to people who came from afar too and to the happy elves who helped tidy up at the end of the night !

With a Cuban Rueda Class at 7.30pm, this is a Cuban salsa class where people dance in a circle and change partners, good fun. The class will be suitable for total beginners. A new Rueda class starts soon in May so this will give you a taster. There is also a free Taster Bachata Class , 8.15-8.45pm for anyone who is coming along to the social. Bring along friends & they can learn the basic Bachata steps to kick start the evening.
Followed by dancing to salsa and bachata music with a touch of kizomba & merengue from 8.45pm till midnight.

NEW Latin Quarter Beginners Salsa class starting Tuesday  6th May, 6.15-7.15pm, at The Deaf Hub, Old Mill, 23, Brown St, Dundee. DD1 5EF, can join first 2 weeks only. Other LQ classes also re start on the 6th May.

Please note : there is no car parking outside the deaf hub (may get a parking ticket), best to park on Brown street.

Casual clothes are fine and best to wear shoes with a slippy sole , like a leather sole  but fit securely on feet though. Although most regular shoes are fine. 

The other 2 higher level classes will start back on 6th May aswell, after 2 weeks holiday.

These classes run continuously and not in blocks of classes. £30 for any 6 classes ticket or £6 a class CASH only.
