A flavour of the recent 21st Anniversary celebration of Latin Quarter and Azul Wasi at the Marryat Hall in Dundee on the 14th June 2024.
Sincere thanks to Jhony Pozo for this lovely video, who did a fantastic job capturing the night in very challenging light conditions. Also to Gareth @Flick for Kicks for partial sponsorship of the video.
BIG thanks again to Son al Son, Soles del Peru, Yamil Cuedo Ferrera, Gary Houston for photos, Tania @ SBK Dundee for all her support and to everyone who came along, staff & helpers on the night, and anyone who donated raffle prizes or money, anyone involved in the set up and advertising and anyone else who took photos/videos.
This week on tuesday at Deaf Hub classes, there will be a Bachata Fusion class at 6.15pm instead of Salsa beginners, as the block has now finished, we will fill some gaps up until the summer break. The Bachata class will be suitable for beginners & improvers, something for all. The other 2 LQ classes will run as normal.
BIG THANKS to everyone who made it along last Friday to the Marryat Hall, Dundee for the 21st Anniversary Celebration for Azul Wasi & Latin Quarter. We were just over 200 and raised around £1,600 for the home (after outgoings which were considerable for this event), so that’s great. It’s approximate until I get the PRS bill. So that’s about £132,500 in total.
Just a few of Gary Houston’s photos, others are on the Salsa Dundee – Latin Quarter facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/share/p/wuReS4JF493ucxMC/ will be more to follow, once sifted through them. Anyone else got any good ones please contact LQsalsadundee@gmail.com or sarah salsa on facebook messenger. Thanks.
A BIG thank you to everyone who came from out of town and chose the party over the Euro match!!!!
Tom Jolly sends his wishes to everyone and was sorry he could not be with us on Friday. I’ll post the update about Azul Wasi separately from Tom as I had to skim over it on Friday due to running late with the raffle and a couple of things didn’t quite go to plan during the break. Tom has been the main link between us in Dundee and Azul Wasi, for updates and helped with the link with Azul Wasi after my initial holiday to Peru. Tom also made the lovely table leaflets about Azul Wasi over the years.
It was nice to be back at the Marryat after 11 years, how many of you were there in 2013 at the 10th Anniversary party?
The thank yous were also skimmed on Friday due to time, so here they are, a very BIG thank you to :
Firstly, Alcides, Anastasia and Davide for providing a welcoming and supportive home to the children at Azul Wasi for so many years.
David & Rosey at Peace Child International for assisting with money transfers to Azul Wasi.
Then on the night to :
Son al Son, which I am sure you will all agree are fantastic ! and to Tomas and Simon in particular for their help to pull together the artists to make it all possible. I was sorry that Bob, band leader couldn’t be with us this time, but would like to thank Bob and Son al Son for all their support over the many years.
Mitch & Johny at Audio wave for the PA and sound – also great supporters over the years.
Soles del Peru, Peruvian folkloric dancers who we welcomed for the first time, it was lovely to see their performance and bring us a taste of Peru, particularly from the Cusco area – which is dear to my heart and where my journey with the children at Azul Wasi started in 2002 on holiday.
Yamil Cuedo Ferrera and Kath Bateman for their support and the fantastic animations -so much energy !
Andrew and the Marryat Hall staff.
Anyone who donated the lovely raffle prizes.
A few special people who gave up some of their evening to help on the door and raffle, thank you to Tania, Fiona, Melanie, Val, Moira, Weronika, Pauline and Milena.
Gary Houston, who took some lovely pictures and donated his time for free, here are a selection of Gary’s pictures. (www.instagram.com/gary_uk21).
Jhony, who recorded videos (Jhony Pozo (@jhonypozophotographer) • Instagram photos and videos), and Gareth, FlickforKicks.com (for partial sponsorship of Jhony’s videos), FlickForKicks Subbuteo Shop – Connect. Learn. Play. and to others who sent in their pictures and videos.
Everyone who helped advertise the event, including John at SAS advertising, the Evening Telegraph and Courier.
And to Urban Print for reduced print fees.
Two anonymous donors for their contributions towards Fridays event.
All who have made donations in the past and to anyone who has supported Latin Quarter classes and socials over the past 21/22 years which have raised over £132,400 now for Azul Wasi.
The Deaf Hub and many other venues locally over the years.
Susan and Hamish a very heartfelt thank you to you both for helping to teach in classes and bring on the beginners and improver students in classes.
Massimo, who also supports Azul Wasi, and helped me in classes and socials in the past for a number of years.
I would also like to thank my parents for coming up and helping with all the last minute preparations !
Last but not least a HUGE thank you to Tania, who is a great support and a dear friend, without her help in the LQ classes, socials and advertising, things would certainly not run as smoothly.
Anyone I have forgotten to thank, I apologise. Hope to see some of you at future classes and socials!!!
If anyone doesn’t want to be on social media on the pictures/ videos please let me know. Send a message to Sarah Salsa on messenger or email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com with a link asking for it to be removed.
