With 2025 drawing to a close I would just like to thank everyone for all their continued support, we raised £9,807 this year from Latin Quarter classes & socials, and over the past 22 years a grand total of £153,499 for Azul Wasi children’s home, Oropesa, Peru and £6,165 for other charities which is incredible !
So a heartfelt thank you to you all, there are too many of you to name individually, but I want to mention a special thank you to Tania (SBK Dundee) who helped make all this possible over the past few years in helping in the Tuesday classes and at the LQ social events. Tania brings an abundance of sunshine with her enthusiasm for dance !
This year we saw some 1sts for Latin Quarter with 2 retro nights (60/70s then 80/90s SBK plus music). We had our yearly Cuban Fever night with visiting Cuban teacher & performer Yamil Cuedo Ferrera and a Latin Quarter Live Edition with Conjunto Malecon son band, their first time playing at LQ, they were great. There were some familiar faces in the band though from Son Al Son & Latina Turners Orq. We also had our usual SBK socials in between the bigger events. If you would like to have more live music, Cuban or Retro nights please get in touch at email LQsalsadundeegmail.com. Some of the Rueda class also performed in December so a big thank you to the team (with no name yet !).
I also visited Azul Wasi to see Alcides and the children this August and shared a bit of Dundee, Scotland & salsa with them which was both fun and a moving experience, see the earlier Peru trip post for pictures & videos.
Sending you all BIG HUGS and hope you wrap up warm and have a lovely time over the festive season (or holidays) if you celebrate it. Have attached a wee message in the LQ facebook group from Azul Wasi to everyone and a message to the children at Azul Wasi from a few of the die hards who made it along to the very last classes last week. Unfortunately it didn’t quite go to plan, I didn’t check it before we left the building ! Oh well, the sentiment was there, needs a bit of refining before the 2026 message !
The Latin Quarter Tuesday classes start back @ The Deaf Hub on Tuesday 13th January at 6.15pm with the new cross body salsa beginners classes if anyone can help advertise them, would be very grateful as no time to put any posters or flyers around. I’ll post it soon.
The other 2 salsa classes on Tuesdays continue from the 13th Jan as usual, improvers/ intermediate cross body salsa at 7.25pm and Cuban Rueda at 8.20pm. Both these classes require previous salsa experience though, contact sarah @ [LQsalsadundee@gmail.com](mailto:LQsalsadundee@gmail.com) with any class enquires & to reserve spaces for the beginners 10 week block.
Also hoping to have another conversion class of cross body salsa to cuban rueda in February if enough interest. Please contact by email if you have completed a beginners salsa class and are interested in learning Rueda.
This Tuesday it’s the last Latin Quarter dance classes before Christmas @The Deaf Hub, hope you can make it along :
6.15pm – Continuing beginners salsa
7.20pm – Bachata Fusion – open to anyone including beginners, will be something for improvers plus too
8.20pm – Cuban Rueda – open to anyone with improver level plus Rueda experience.
Classes will re start on Tuesday 13th January.
There will be a new Beginners salsa class 6.15pm starting on 13th Jan too, email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com for places.
Am also canvassing interest for another Cross body to Cuban Rueda conversion class early next year. If you would like to learn Rueda and already have 10 weeks of beginners salsa experience please email address above to see if enough to run another conversion group to learn the basics before joining the existing Rueda class.
Next Latin Quarter Social is Saturday 31st January.
But before then there is Tania’s SBK Love Dance Christmas party this friday 19th Dec @ The Deaf Hub.
BIG THANKS to everyone who came last night to The Clubbee for the Latin Quarter & Azul Wasi 22nd Anniversary party. Conjunto Malecon were brilliant hope you liked them. A wee taste of traditional son music. There were 112 folks there including band & helpers.
We raised a total of £1,102 for Azul Wasi children’s home in Peru (after outgoings) this amount includes £204 of additional donations from people via the ticket tailor forum and some on the night, so thank you so much for these. That’s a fantastic amount !
Special thanks you to Tania for all the help setting up & down and to Patrick, Bernie & John for doing the door & raffle tickets. Also to Fiona for helping sell raffle tickets & dishing out prizes and to Trevor for assisting with a few things on the night.
Thanks to the Latin Quarter Rueda team (yet to be named) for the performance.
Also thanks to Conjunto Malecon and Dave & the Staff @ The Clubbee and to all the raffle prize donors, see the previous posts for links to businesses.
If anyone has feedback about the event please send to me @ LQsalsadundee@gmail.com. I am aware the venue is hot at times, the windows were opened but the wall fans need to go on sooner especially if it’s busy, so something for my checklist. Also the dance floor was abit sticky. The club are going to try to improve this before the next social there.
If anyone has any pictures or videos that I can share in the LQ facebook group I’d love to get them, please send a message to the email or sarah salsa on facebook messenger to arrange transfer please. Also if anyone doesn’t want their photo/ video on this site, please email LQsalsadundee@gmail.com asap.
