22nd Anniversary Latin Quarter Christmas Band Night – Saturday 6th December

Be transported to Cuba with Conjunto Malecón, live band from Edinburgh.  Conjunto Malecón are a Scotland-based musical collective united by a shared passion for traditional Cuban music.  The five-piece ensemble brings together musicians of diverse nationalities, blending their unique backgrounds into a singular, authentic interpretation of one of the most influential musical styles to emerge from the late 19th century.  The ensemble brings together three generations of musicians from some of the most influential Afro-Caribbean bands in Northern UK, including Salsa Celtica, Orquesta Latina Turners, Orquesta Mambo Internacional, and Son al Son.   (4) Facebook

 Latin Quarter 21st Anniversary Celebration – 14th June 2024

Doors open on the 6th Dec at 7.30pm with a free taster beginners salsa class @ 7.45pm, the band will play 2 sets. DJ Sarita playing bachata, with a splash of salsa & kizomba until midnight. Programme to follow.

The venue has a large dance floor and a  licensed bar with a card machine. There will be a pre drawn fund raising raffle for Azul Wasi in the break. I hope you can all join us and celebrate 22 years of the Azul Wasi (formerly Blooming Colibri) homes in Peru and Latin Quarter fund raising classes & events. Come and spice up your life ! and help raise money for Azul Wasi at the same time.

Children can also attend, £10 a ticket accompanied with adult ticket holder and need to be supervised by an adult.

There  will be an optional donation facility when you purchase tickets online if you would like to contribute to the Azul Wasi home.There will be a limit on numbers for the room, so get your ticket before they sell out ! LAST CHANCE to buy online tickets will be MIDNIGHT on 4th December to allow admin time.

Any photos or videos taken by Latin Quarter photo/videographers could be posted to Facebook/ social media after the event. Anyone who does not wish to be on photos/videos please make this known to photo/videographer on the night or send message to Sarah Salsa on messenger with link asking for it to be removed.

Raffle prize donations would be greatly appreciated, will be advertising on the night & on facebook in advance for larger donations.

Mini block of Latin Quarter Bachata Fusion classes @ The Deaf Hub

3 weeks – Tuesday 25th Nov, 2nd & 9th December- 7.25pm – 8.20pm – £5 per class

Suitable for total beginners and improver level – will be something for everyone.

Bachata fusion is a mix of bachata moderna, sensual and traditional (dominican). Bachata music is often played at latin socials so it’s good to learn a few steps/ moves. Anyone can come along, no experience necessary.

Remember there are NO Latin Quarter classes @ The Deaf Hub next Tuesday, 18th Nov, classes running as normal on 25th Nov onwards.

We will have a few Bachata Fusion classes in the 7.25pm class slot starting on 25th Nov up until Christmas, suitable for total beginners or for those with some experience too. Bachata is a main staple at SBK socials, so good to learn the basic steps and a few moves. Anyone welcome. Classes are £5 each.

Big Thanks to everyone who came along to Latin Quarter @ The Clubee last friday, with a special thank you to all that came from afar, to the club staff and those who came in retro gear.

We raised £373 after outgoings, for Azul Wasi, home for children near Oropesa, Peru. Thank you to Ursa & Weronika for doing the door and to Tania for all her help with class & room set up/down. Some pictures & videos to follow soon.

8.15pm to 8.45pm – Free Salsa beginners class for anyone attending the social.

8.45pm to  Midnight – Music for dancing 

This is our 2nd Latin Quarter RETRO night, I’ll be digging out my old DJ playlist CDs ! from 2002/3 when I first started Latin Quarter socials and selecting the best classic tunes.  Expect some cool Salsa & Bachata tracks from the 80s/90s this time (was 60s/70s last time) with a few more recent classics thrown in, together with a splash of older Merengue & Kizomba tunes !  

Come as you are or dress in something 80s/90s inspired ! Umm .. Neon, leg warmers, shoulder pads, tracksuits, hip hop, swirly patterns ??

This venue has a large dance floor, come in the front door & the function room is upstairs.

Class only £5, Social only £5, FULL Combo ticket, Class & Social £8

Student Combo tic – £5 with ID

Children, £2 for social only.

BIG thanks to everyone who came along to the Cuban Fever night @ Dundee Social Club on Friday. We raised £290 (after outgoings) for Azul Wasi (childrens home in Peru).

A very BIG thank you to Yamil Cuedo Ferrera for his boundless energy in the classes, line ups and lovely Elegua performance.
